How to Sew a Disappearing 9 Patch Quilt Block The disappearing 9 patch is one of those quilt blocks that feels a bit like magic. You sew a simple 9 patch, make two straight cuts… and suddenly it turns into something that looks far more intricate than it actually is. For this tutorial, I’m using 5” squares  (because they’re easy to work with and great for scraps), but I’ve included alternative sizes below so you can scale it up or down depending on your project.
