Looking for a quick sewing project that's both useful and fun to make? This DIY phone stand bean bag is a simple scrap-busting project that creates a handy holder for your phone while you watch videos, follow tutorials, make video calls, or browse hands free.
Made using small pieces of fabric and a little bean bag filling, this beginner-friendly sewing project comes together in no time and is a great way to use up leftover materials from larger projects. It also makes a thoughtful handmade gift and can be customised to suit any style with your favourite fabrics.
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to sew a simple bean bag phone stand step by step so you can create your own practical fabric phone holder.

What you'll need:
- 2 pieces of fabric measuring 6 x 8 inches
- toy filler
- rice to fill the base

Place the 2 pieces pf fabric right sides together. Leaving the top open, sew the remaining edges using a 1/4" seam allowance. Leave a small gap at the bottom on one long side. (see arrows in picture below)

2. Pinch the 2 center seams at the top and pull them apart so that the side seams are now matching. Sew across the top leaving a small gap for turning.

3. Turn right side out. Sew a line across the bottom of the bag about 1.5" in. This will create the base for the phone to stand on.

4. Fill the base section with rice and sew the opening closed. Fill the main bag with toy filler and sew that opening closed too.

And that's the phone holder finished!

Now that you've made your phone stand bean bag, why not sew a larger matching version? Using the same simple techniques, you can create a cosy bean bag chair that's perfect for reading, gaming, relaxing, or creating a comfortable corner for children.
